Following its successful Premiere, the Metropolitan Orchestra of Athens will be presenting two amazing performances in January 2015. The 80-member Orchestra, which was founded by the internationally renowned pianist, composer and conductor,Vassilis Tsabropoulos, will be making a refreshing and hopeful appearance in the country’s musical landscape on Monday the 19th and Tuesday the 20th of January 2015 at its concert house at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, with two soloists, under the direction of Vassilis Tsabropoulos: concert-master,Omiros Yavroumis, on 19/1/2015 with works by Saint- Saëns (Havanaise for violin and orchestra, Op.83 and Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso for violin and orchestra, Op.28) and the top clarinetist, Spyros Mourikis, on 20/1/2015 in a Mozart concerto (in A major, K.622). The core of the programme is based upon the ingenious composition “Dansemacabre” by the composer Saint- Saëns which describes the macabre dance of skeletons in a graveyard, starkly reminding us of the uselessness of earthly glory and the finality of death. On the other side of the fence we have the ever-powerful classicism of Beethoven, crowning the events by the MSO of Athens for January with his famous 7th Symphony, a prominent example of his particularly creative second period.
