The Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra of Athens is a self-governing orchestra founded in 2014 by the internationally acclaimed pianist, composer, and conductor Vassilis Tsabropoulos, and managed by a Board composed of its musicians. The daily operations of the Orchestra are overseen by the Music Director and Founder together with the Orchestra Committee of the Board.
Since its inception, the MSO of Athens has been proud to serve as the Resident Orchestra at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, while also enjoying a successful residency at the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron).
The Orchestra has had the honor of being placed under the aegis of His Eminence Ieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, and the privilege of presenting a landmark concert at the reopening of the historic Cathedral Church of Athens, following years of restoration after the devastating earthquakes.
Founded during a period of economic crisis in Greece, the MSO of Athens brought renewed vitality and fresh hope to the country’s musical life.
